How real evidence would be protected (not built yet)
- Server assigns UTC upload-receipt time (and capture-session time where captured in-app); kept separate from editable EXIF and device clocks.
- SHA-256 hash of the original bytes computed server-side on receipt and recorded in the audit log.
- Original bytes stored privately and immutably (write-once), accessed only through short-lived signed links after server-side per-property authorisation.
- Annotations saved as new versions linked to the original; the original is never overwritten.
- Append-only audit events for add, view, annotate, export and deletion requests.
- Retention, deletion and privacy controls agreed under a UK GDPR review, including tenant access and erasure handling.
- Exports include a provenance manifest (hashes, server times, uploader, versions). Visible timestamp watermarks go on derivative/export copies only, never on the original.
- Even then, a server timestamp shows when the file was received — not when the photo or recording was actually taken.
